Ceramics has by far been my favorite class. Ceramics allow a student to use his or her creative skills, when often in classrooms students never get to think outside the box. Ceramics is the one class in which I can truly connect with my peers and focus my mindset and creativity on creating a piece of unique artwork that doesn't have a grade attached to it like a class assignment.

The aspect of ceramics I enjoy the most is the ability to express oneself through a piece of clay. I have developed a certain style of making ceramics and I always include certain aspects in each of my pieces. Additionally, I am fascinated how an idea in my head can transfer into a piece of art, ceramic or otherwise. My emotions and creativity influence the things I make.

Over the years I have found  myself making pieces that involve nature. I enjoy relating nature to my ceramics to create an earthy and calm feel to my pieces. Nature is a beautiful aspect of my life and I enjoy spending time in nature, so to transfer aspects of it, like color and design, onto my pieces is something special to me.

There are no limits in art.  I think it is important for many people to know, especially perfectionists like myself, that not everything needs to follow guidelines and be symmetrical. My greatest pieces have been the most abstract and out of the box ideas, and I enjoy the appearance of those more than a perfectly shaped pot, or bowl, or cup. The individuality between my pieces and those around me is what makes me so at ease and overjoyed to take Ceramics.
